About Viewpoint Mobility

Viewpoint Mobility was founded in 1989 in order to modify minivans and make them accessible to people in their wheelchairs.  Viewpoint Mobility designs, manufactures, distributes and provides sales and service support for wheelchair accessible minivan modifications.  Our van modifications are available across Canada through a network of Mobility Equipment Dealers.

Our primary product is a Rear-Entry Wheelchair Van Modification, which is sometimes referred to as a, ' Viewpoint Van'.  Recently, we have become the exclusive Canadian distributor of a new type of personal mobility device – the Quingo scooter.  Instantly recognizable by its patented, 5-wheel configuration, the Quingo Scooter delivers greater occupant safety and agility than traditional 3 and 4-wheeled scooters. Quingo scooters also offer improved comfort, reliability, and value.

Viewpoint Mobility is registered as Freedom Motors Inc. Since 1989, we have sold well over 2000 Viewpoint Vans. In 1993, Freedom Motors was the first commercial company to successfully crash-test a wheelchair van to ensure that the modification complied with Canadian (and USA) Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Our certification and test program is undoubtedly the most extensive in our industry. To date, we have successfully tested more than 10 different models of rear-entry, lowered-floor wheelchair van modifications.

In the year 2000, we developed Viewpoint Mobility LLC, a new company in the USA.  In December 2004, we sold that USA company to the present owners, with whom we continue to cooperate.  Note that there is no ownership connection between Viewpoint Mobility (Canada) and Viewpoint Mobility LLC (USA).  There is also no relationship between either Viewpoint Mobility (Canada) and Freedom Motors USA.  We officially changed our operating name from Freedom Motors Inc. to Viewpoint Mobility, in order to avoid confusion.

Since 1995, we have chosen to focus primarily on the Rear-Entry configuration. Our current line-up includes: Chrysler, Dodge, Honda, Toyota, and VW.  While GM and Ford have discontinued their minivan lines, we continue to modify used models of Ford and GM minivans, as well as some past models of Chrysler minivans (2005-2007).

Tony Colenbrander, P.Eng., Ph.D., is the President and Owner of Viewpoint Mobility.

Viewpoint Mobility is a proud member of the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA).
